Shark Cartoon

This cartoon shows the number of fatalities from cancer, heart disease, war, car accidents, and sharks. The M. stands for million. It is obvious that sharks are not what we should be afraid of.

Google Images

These are examples of pictures from google. All three images are on the first line of images meaning they are the most clicked. The pictures show what most people think of when they think about sharks. But as you look through google images you will find.

These show an animal that is much less threatening but the pictures wont be found until you look much further into google. These pictures are not as popular because they do not show what most people think of when they think of sharks. They show a calm docile creature that has no problem with human interaction. In other words they show what most sharks are truly like.

Media Bias

http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/good_day_ny/sharks-spotted-off-rockaway-beach-20100808-ac

The link above is a great example of media bias. When the reporter was asking about the shark the questions seemed to be aimed to try and make the professional say that sharks are dangerous and we should all be afraid of them. It is obvious that he is trying to deliver his answers in a way that will portray the truth about sharks without causing people to be afraid of them and I respect him for that.

Shark Fin Soup

http://guyharveymagazine.com/the-four-lie-of-shark-fin-soup.php

I have posted this link to an article regarding shark fin soup. It explains four misconceptions regarding shark fin soup. The main one being that it is a Chinese traditional food. People don't want to ban it because it makes them look racist or culturally insensitive but the truth is it is not a traditional Chinese food. Up until recently only upper class people would serve it and only at weddings or other formal occasions.

Media Bias

The website I have posted provides many updates about shark news. It includes a tab that contains recent media bias pertaining to sharks.

About the Blog

This blog is going to be about showing the public about sharks being wrongly exploited in the media. I will post video clips and news articles that show examples of media bias. Also I will post links to websites that I find that show more factual information about sharks.
